What is Athens?
Athens is the name of the service used to authenticate and authorise users for access to online services from around the world. Athens is also the name of the division within EduServ that develops the software and supports the Athens service in the UK. There are now two major Athens services in operation; one for the UK education community and another for the NHS sector.

Athens Single Sign-ON
info4education subscribes to the Athens Single Sign-On scheme. This means that, if you have already logged on to Athens to use another resource, you won't need to logon again to use info4education - Simply press the Athens Logon button to continue

Why doesn't my Athens username/password allow me access to the online services in info4education?
Only users within those institutions who have subscribed to the appropriate info4education package can use their Athens uname/pword to access the service. If your institution does not subscribe you can still use some elements of the service, as follows:

BS Online
Complete the free registration process. In addition to searching and viewing results, for which you do not have to register, registering allows you to view document summaries and order individual documents via the secure credit card purchasing facility.

Specify-it and Engineer-it
There is no free access to full-text catalogues and specifications on www.specify-it.com and
www.engineer-it.com but you are able to access the free directory-type information to trace products and suppliers in the construction and engineering sectors.
